Hypermobility Posture Guide

Learn how to support your posture to protect your hypermobile joints, reduce pain flares and subluxations.

This FREE guide is provided to everyone on the waitlist for my Oct 2025 round of Ground Control -  intro to stability and pain management course for hypermobility.

Hypermobile humans have unique challenges when it comes to posture.

  • Having "good" posture can feel exhausting or even painful.
  • Hypermobile humans rely MORE on their muscles than our collagen normative friends for postural support.
  • It's so much more than just "stand up straight"
  • If you have symptomatic hypermobility, learning to support your posture can make a big difference in symptoms….and quickly!

Learn the Real Reasons You Might Have “Poor Posture” — and What to Do About It

If you’re hypermobile, you’ve probably heard the phrase “bad posture” more times than you can count.

But here’s the truth:
Your posture challenges aren’t your fault — and they’re not because you’re “lazy” or “not trying hard enough.”

One of the most common things I hear from my hypermobile clients?

“I don’t even know where to start.”

That’s completely understandable!

Symptomatic hypermobility (hEDS and HSD) affects your entire body and multiple systems. Getting started can feel overwhelming.

That’s why I created the Hypermobility Posture Guide — a 32 page evidence-based resource to help you:

  • Understand the real reasons behind your posture challenges

  • Make targeted adjustments that actually help you feel better — starting right away

Why posture is more challenging for hypermobile humans

Decreased proprioception - aka joint position sense

Laxity in connective tissue means postural muscles need to work harder

Neurological protective guarding that causes fatigue and stiffness

Pain inhibition of stabilizing muscles

If "fixing" your posture was easy....you would have figured it out by now.

Unfortunately there are a lot incorrect assumptions made by looking at someone's posture, especially if you're hypermobile.

👉 For example, has anyone ever told you that you should "just stretch"  to fix your posture or muscle tension?

If you're like my patients and clients you've done ALL the pec and hip flexor stretching in the world but still struggle with pain and are told your anterior pelvic tilt is causing your back and sacroiliac joint pain.

Everyone is unique. There are many possible reasons your posture may look a certain way, or feel difficult to have "good" posture.

🦓 With The Hypermobility Posture guide, you’ll learn how  to correctly analyze your own posture, and what to do that will actually help so you can start feeling less pain and fatigue ASAP.

Hi! I'm Dr. Melissa Koehl

I'm a Physical Therapist and Pilates instructor and have been in practice since 2001.  I also live with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and specialize in hypermobility related disorders.

Growing up, I was a high level gymnast until I experienced a career ending stress fracture to my lower back.

I struggled with many years of complex symptoms that were a medical mystery to my providers, until eventually I figured out that hypermobile EDS, a connective tissue disorder, was at the root of many problems.  At one point my symptoms  were so severe I cut my hours down to part time, and was close to going on disability.

Thankfully, with the help of several EDS providers, and loads of self study, trial and error, I'm able to focus my time and attention on helping my fellow bendy bodies.

I understand the struggle, frustration and despair of hypermobility and chronic illness.  Thankfully, there are things you can do that REALLY help, and it's my passion to share what I've learned with my fellow zebras in order to feel strong, stable and in control of their bodies.

What people are saying...

Natalie Conway

“The Hypermobility Posture guide is awesome…..My family members are accountability buddies for me at family gatherings and events because I have a tendency to sit, stand, brace, bend and twist in funky ways because I am more tuned into the people around me than my positioning. Just this weekend at my niece's shower I hear her say to me, “Auntie, should you really be sitting like that?”
