Do you have hypermobility and have been told that squats are bad for your knees?
Or...
Have you been told that because you have hypermobility, you should ONLY do pool exercises or very gentle Pilates?
These are both MYTHS that many of my patients have heard, often from well meaning, but misguided health providers.
As a Physical Therapist and Pilates instructor with hEDS, I've seen that squats are one of the most effective exercises to build strength, stability and reduce pain for myself and my clients.
Now some of us may not be ready for squats today, or may have days in the future where squats are not accessible.
No worries. In this course you'll learn:
1.Various modifications of squats to make them pain free for YOU
2. Individual muscle group exercises for strength and stability to help you work up to eventually be able to do a squat pain free.
Squats are highly functional and extremely effective at building our strength and stability! We all need to sit down and stand up from chairs, which is what makes understanding this movement critically important.
Looking to level up your understanding of how to build strength and stability when you're hypermobile?
Join me for the #SquatStabilitySystem
In this FREE course, you'll learn

Hi! I'm Dr. Melissa Koehl
I'm a Physical Therapist and Pilates instructor, and I live with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS).
I'm so thrilled that you're here!
Like many of you, my journey with hypermobility has been long and complex.
As a Physical Therapist and Pilates instructor, I thankfully learned the rehabilitation and pain management tools I needed to address pain and injuries as they came up (which they sure did! Ever get seriously injured by a massage? Me too...)
I understand the struggle, frustration and despair of hypermobility and chronic illness.
Thankfully, there are things you can do that REALLY help, and it's my passion to share what I've learned with my fellow zebras in order to feel strong, stable and in control of their bodies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Squats are painful for me right now, can I still take this course?
YES! I will teach you the correct form and ways to modify squats that address most types of pain. If those things don't work for you, or if you're not able to tolerate standing for another reason (POTS, foot/ankle pain, etc..), I'll teach you the sitting and laying down exercises you can do to get the strength and stabilization benefits of a squat in another way
What if I can't attend the live class?
The live class is Wed Sept 7 @ 5:30pm central time. But if you can't make it, no worries! A video replay will be added to the course. But I do recommend you try to attend the live class if at all possible, even if it's while you're sitting in a car, or cooking dinner, so you can ask questions!
How long is the course available?
When you sign up, you'll get immediate access to the pre-recorded videos. The live class recording will be posted to the course and all videos will be available for 7 days following the live class. If you're really loving this content and want longer access, I'd encourage you to sign up for my 8-week Hypermobile Fitness course where you get LIFETIME access to all of the videos for each week as well as ongoing support directly from me.
How will you give me direct feedback on my form?
Use your phone or other device to record a video of yourself, then upload that video to our private Facebook group. In the comments, I'll share my analysis, and others can offer their suggestions or tips. If you're uncomfortable doing this you can also message me directly, however I encourage you to share with the group if at all possible. The more practice we get at movement analysis through our vision and talking through what we feel in our bodies, the better!
Will you be offering this another time?
Yes, but not until 2023.
Can I invite others to join the course?
Absolutely!

If you need an experienced and overall phenomenal PT (and not to mention a very cool person), to help you...she's IT. I give her the highest recommendation possible. For anyone, but especially for those with hypermobility and related issues.
Leslie
I've been able to walk more than I have in years and carry more. My body feels better and stronger. And while I remain aware of my hypermobile tendencies, I trust my body more.
