Hypermobile Humans need a nuanced approach to movement.

There's a few essentials that EVERYONE with hypermobility needs to know, love and master.

Where you progress beyond this, is highly individual.

If you're like many of my patients with hypermobility, you may struggle with pain during exercise and even during Physical Therapy.

This is especially common AFTER exercise, which can be so confusing and frustrating.

The most important way to avoid this pitfall is to have a solid foundation of stability in your entire body so you know how to move in the ways that work for you.

Learn the  fundamentals that are required for stability and pain to improve.

Once you have mastered the fundamentals, and understand how to tailor them specifically  for YOUR body, you'll feel in control and ready to you advance to higher level movements and activities without fear of injury or subluxations.

For >20 years as a Physical Therapist and Pilates instructor, I've seen first hand just how powerful, literally life-changing mastering these basics can be.

You'll also learn several modifications and I'll answer your specific questions so you know you're feeling things in the way that is right for your body.

Sounds good, but....struggle with fatigue and brain fog?

I got you!

That's why this is two part series, each only 30 minutes.

If you're like me or my patients, you may struggle to find the bandwidth to sit through a long boring webinar that ultimately gives you a nice overview without any tangible action steps on what you should actually do.

I completely understand what it's like to live the spoonie life.  It's a real struggle to have only so much energy to give even for things you KNOW will be helpful.

So I'm keeping this event short, sweet, and to the point.

We'll get right to the good stuff and you'll learn the specific movements and  exercises that you can use to begin to feel more stable right away!

This will be an INTRO level event.  However, even if you've been doing higher level activities this will be a good check in to make sure your foundational techniques are solid.

What you'll learn....

  • The top 3 essential stability movements for hypermobiltiy
  • Muscles involved with stability of the trunk, pelvis and shoulder
  • If should you should  "engage" your core? And what does that even mean?
  • Detailed cues so you can find what feels best in YOUR body
  • How to progress from basic mat stabilization exercises to daily life and higher level exercises including strength training
  • BONUS: A Good chance you'll meet my cats, Dio and Nikkita.

Hi!  I'm Dr. Melissa Koehl

I'm a Physical Therapist and Pilates instructor, and I live with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS).

I'm so thrilled that you're here!

Like many of you, my journey with hypermobility has been long and complex.

As a Physical Therapist and Pilates instructor, I thankfully learned the rehabilitation and pain management tools I needed to address pain and injuries as they came up (which they sure did!  Ever get seriously injured by a massage?  Me too...)

I understand the struggle, frustration and despair of hypermobility and chronic illness.

Thankfully, there are things you can do that REALLY help, and it's my passion to share what I've learned with my fellow zebras in order to feel strong, stable and in control of their bodies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I can't attend the live class?

This is going to be interactive and I'd LOVE it you can make it, but a video replay will be available for 10 days

I do recommend you try to attend the live class if at all possible, even if it's while you're sitting in a car, or cooking dinner, so you can absorb the info in real time and ask any questions.

What equipment do I need?

A yoga mat or other comfortable surface and a mini-band like this: mini-band

A foam roller and 9" Pilates ball may also be helpful but not required.

Yes4All Foam Roller

I've done PT before and worked on stability but it didn't help, how is this different?

Not everyone responds to the same approach.  Often when working with therapists or trainers that aren't familiar with hypermobility, the nuances of movement and cuing are often missed.  Because of our impaired propriception, it's really important that you FEEL and UNDERSTAND exactly what is best for your body in each exercise.  I can't tell you how many times I've re-taught someone an exercise and with the right cues and modification it made ALL the difference.  I've also seen that very often the fundamentals are completely skipped OR started but never  progressed. Stuck on clamshells forever?? Yeah no one wants that.  Immediately starting with complex and higher intensity strength exercises? Ugg, that can be problematic too...

We'll discuss both situations so you will know exactly where to start, and then what to do to progress appropriately.

Will you be offering this another time?

Yes, but not until  fall of 2023

Can I invite others to join?

Please do!

Is this for me?

This event is designed specifically for those with hypermobiltiy including hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder(HSD).

However even if you're not hypermobile and just want to learn more about your body, you're very welcome!  I help lots of people with pain from arthritis, fibromyalgia, and more that benefit from the same gentle but effective method I use with my hypermobile patients and clients.

Who is this NOT for?

Anyone that's been exercising at a high level without pain for years.  If so, good for you!  If you're able to do high level activities without issue for a while (EVEN if you're hypermobile), your stabilizers are very likely doing their job just fine and you'll probably find the simple stabilization motor control movements easy and not worth your time. Go get that barbell and crush!

What People Are Saying

Elena

"Melissa is a physical therapist and Pilates instructor of unrivaled quality.  This is her calling, and it shows.

Linda

If you need an experienced and overall phenomenal PT (and not to mention a very cool person), to help you...she's IT. I give her the highest recommendation possible.  For anyone, but especially for those with hypermobility and related issues.

Leslie

I've been able to walk more than I have in years and carry more. My body feels better and stronger. And while I remain aware of my hypermobile tendencies, I trust my body more.

Andrea

"Two months ago, I couldn't exercise at all because of too loose joints, too tight muscles, and fear of injury. It was hard to do my job without experiencing radiating neck pain. Today, I safely did a full strength training workout including (light) weighted goblet squats, Bulgarian split squats, and planks!!! "

Sarah

"I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Melissa and the benefits these classes have had on overall health. Every hypermobile person needs these classes in their lives yesterday."
